We met up with Terry at the Ottawa airport to start the five amigos reunion. We’ll meet up with Barbara and Daniel at the start of the Arran walk.
We were totally unimpressed with our flights on WestJet – Ottawa-Halifax-Glasgow. The only good thing I can say is that the flights were on time. Halifax to Glasgow was overnight and we weren’t even offered coffee in the morning. We all agreed we’ll stick with Air Canada whereever possible. At least they offer some food & drink on overseas flights and don’t charge for checked luggage (overseas), at last not yet. On WestJet they even charge for a blanket. Bob asked for one and it never appeared, poor guy was very cold by the time we got to Glasgow.
Our accomodations in Glasgow are good, the building is on a lovely semi-circular crescent. Bob and I have the exhibitionist room on the first floor, three huge windows facing the street, we could put on quite a show if we wanted. We spent the rest of the day walking around the centre of Glasgow. Our first time here, we both really liked it and are already looking forward to spending more time here later in the trip. We decided to do the hop on/off city tour later in the afternoon vs falling asleep on our feet. The tour was 90 minutes. We started on the open second level but it was breezy and the sun which had been out all day disappeared part way through the tour. It was quite chilly on top once the sun was gone. I wimped out and moved into the enclosed area on the top level and have to admit to having a few little naps, Bob and Terry didn’t move and were frozen by the time we got off the bus. We saw several places we want to go to when we come back – we didn’t do any hopping off on this our as we got on the bus in the late afternoon.
It started to drizzle during our 20 minute walk back to our lodgings but it wasn’t too bad. We went to a casual local restaurant for dinner. It poured rain while we where there but calmed down enough that we didn’t get soaked on the walk back.
